Child on incursion with animals

At Oz Education Early Learning Centres, we believe children learn best when they are given opportunities to explore, experience and connect with the world around them. Our incursions and excursions are thoughtfully included as part of our early learning programs to enhance children’s understanding, confidence and curiosity through meaningful, hands‑on experiences.

These experiences extend learning beyond the classroom while remaining closely aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Whether learning within the safety of the centre or exploring the local community, children are supported to discover new interests, build social skills and develop a strong sense of belonging.

Children are given opportunities to learn through doing – asking questions, engaging with new people and environments, and applying their learning in practical ways. These experiences help children make meaningful connections, encouraging confidence, independence and a natural love of learning that develops over time.

All incursions and excursions are carefully planned with children’s safety, wellbeing and enjoyment in mind. Families are kept informed at every step, and experiences are tailored to be age‑appropriate, engaging and enriching. By combining educational value with joy and discovery, we ensure each experience supports your child’s growth while creating positive, lasting memories.

Incursions

Our incursions invite trusted external providers into our centres, offering children the chance to experience new ideas and skills within a familiar, comfortable environment. These sessions are carefully chosen to complement our curriculum and support children’s learning in engaging, age‑appropriate ways.

Incursions may include:

  • Music, dance and movement programs that encourage creativity and expression
  • Animal and nature experiences that spark curiosity and care for the environment
  • Cultural, creative and interactive performances
  • Science, sustainability and wellbeing experiences led by specialists

By learning in a space where children feel secure, incursions help build confidence while introducing new concepts in a fun and accessible way.

Excursions

Excursions provide valuable opportunities for children to interact with their local community and apply learning in real‑life contexts. These outings support independence, social awareness and problem‑solving, helping children feel confident navigating environments outside the classroom.

Excursions may include visits to:

  • Local parks and natural environments
  • Libraries and community hubs
  • Neighbourhood landmarks and services

Through these experiences, children build a deeper understanding of their community while strengthening communication, cooperation and observation skills.
