Rest Time

baby rest time

At Oz Education, we understand how important rest is to a child’s overall well‑being. Regular rest and nap time support healthy development by allowing children to recharge, restore energy, and return to learning and play with improved focus and calmness. This is why we ensure every child receives the sleep and rest they need throughout the day, following safe sleep practices and respecting individual routines. We recognise that each child is unique, and our educators work closely with families to accommodate personal sleep patterns and preferences.

After lunch each day, children are given the opportunity to rest in a comfortable, peaceful, and safe environment. This quiet time helps reduce tiredness and supports better engagement during the afternoon’s activities. Research also shows that consistent rest supports physical growth, boosts immune function, and plays a vital role in emotional regulation and developing healthy coping skills.

Children who do not wish to sleep are encouraged to rest their bodies and participate in quiet, calming activities. Preschoolers who are transitioning away from naps in preparation for school routines are also supported with gentle, low‑stimulus experiences during this period.

Our educators place great emphasis on creating a soothing atmosphere during rest time. Soft background music, gentle reassurance, and a calm environment help children relax and feel secure. By prioritising rest, we support the holistic development of every child in our care and ensure they are ready to learn, explore, and enjoy their day.

Parents can rest assured that all Oz Education centres follow Red Nose Australia Safe Sleep and Rest guidelines to ensure a safe, nurturing rest environment. All cots and beds meet safety standards, and our educators are trained in best-practice procedures. Families are asked to provide a cover sheet or blanket, along with any comfort items their child needs, as long as they comply with Safe Sleep and Rest recommendations.
