Learning about Valentine’s Day through Play

Our babies enjoyed a sensory-rich Valentine’s water play experience, where they mixed different shades of red with milk. With soft fabric hearts added to the activity, children explored colours and textures in a calming and engaging way, sparking curiosity and sensory awareness.

Meanwhile, our 1 to 2 year olds explored Valentine’s Day symbols through hands-on creative play. With guidance from educators, they experimented with lines, shapes, and colours, learning about heart shapes while creating their own Valentine’s cards. This activity encouraged creativity while supporting early understanding of shapes and patterns.

Hopping Into Valentine STEM Experiences

In the Koala Room, our 2 to 3 year old children engaged in a vibrant sensory rice tray experience filled with colourful rice, pom-poms, tiny hearts, and fabric roses. This activity stimulated their senses and encouraged imaginative play, an important part of early STEM learning.

Our Kangaroo Room children aged 3 to 4 years explored a magical sensory bin filled with colourful rice and confetti. This fun, hands-on activity not only sparked creativity but also supported early mathematical thinking, as children experimented with sorting, categorising, and recognising shapes.

Our preschoolers in the Lizard Room began exploring early engineering concepts through an engaging origami activity. With support from educators, children transformed simple squares of paper into 3D Valentine’s hearts.

This experience helped develop spatial awareness and introduced early problem-solving skills, both key foundations of STEM learning. Children also practised counting, sorting, and pattern-making using tools like tongs, strengthening fine motor skills while reinforcing mathematical concepts.

Valentines Craft and STEM Fun

Valentine's Day STEM Fun

At one of our early learning centres, our enthusiastic preschoolers from the Lizard Room have been immersing themselves in the world of early engineering concepts. Under the guidance of their dedicated educators, these little learners embarked on a fun origami experience that taught them how they could transform a simple square piece of paper into a beautiful 3-D Valentine’s heart.

This hands-on activity is not just about crafting; it’s an important step in helping children visualize concepts in three dimensions and engage in early STEM conversations about them. Such spatial awareness is crucial for all fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). By participating in this Valentine’s Day craft, children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are foundational for their future learning journeys.
